Stable mount and easy on/off

If you bought a Garmin Nuvi GPS, the friction mount is a MUST since the suction mount which comes with the GPS is difficult to detach and hide when you park the car. Furthermore, there are some reports that thieves are looking for any evidence of a suction mount marking on the car and break into the cars.

The friction mount was easy to adjust for any viewing angle and never budged in all road conditions.

The only negative is that it is rather large and difficult to store in the car if you have only limited storage in the car.

Given that the suction cup holder worked briefly, I suppose I should be happy that this one is at least holding onto my NUVI. It's a bit bulky, and does slide on the dash,(I have a MINI & love those winding roads.... ;-) But at least the GPS isn't flying off the dash! Probably would be fine for most cars w/flat dash, under normal driving.

When purchasing a Garmin GPS, this mount was suggested for the product and at a reduced price. Mount is too small for the GPS unit and the power plug is in back and interferes with unit as it sits on mount. GPS does not stay on mount and keeps falling off. Basically, the mount is useless and since this is my first GPS, I have a difficult time envisioning this mount to be of any use with any GPS. Also, there were no instructions or suggestions for use, which makes it difficult for first time users.

That convenient little windshield mount leaves a telltale suction cup mark on the windshield and the crooks know what to look for. They figure there is a good chance you hid that GPS in the vehicle and in a matter of seconds it is theirs, after all there's only a few places to hide something in there.

Not only are you out that expensive little GPS but the thief now has your address and maybe the addresses of your friends and family. Like to add your own personal pictures to that GPS? Now he knows what your kids look like. And he also knows the chances are excellent you also own many other expensive electronic gadgets, all just waiting for him to pick up.

This GPS mount is OK unless the road gets bumpy. Using it with our Garmin Nuvi 660 in our SUV, on rough roads it gradually slid down the dashboard top until it contacted the windshield. Every half hour or so, I would reach over and slide it back up towards me. This was on a highway, so it wasn't like off-road rough. It stayed put better on the center console but that put it too far back, out of my line of sight. We have other cars we will try it with but the SUV is our trip car so it will get the most use there. So far, I'm not too impressed.

I've been using this with my Garmin Nuvi 350 since April of 2007. Works like a charm with absolutely no sliding, and it's fantastic for security concerns. I hear that thieves have now advanced from looking for GPS suction cup mounts to looking for the marks left on the windshield by GPS suction cup mounts. Buy this and keep your GPS safe and your car windows intact. It's been worth every penny that I paid for it.

I live in California, where it's illegal to mount the Navigation units to the windshield, so I was searching for a better solution than a mount that would have to be glued to my dashboard. The friction mount is perfect. It doesn't move at all, sits exactly where I need it to in order to see the unit and doesn't ruin my car in any way. I had actually mounted my windshield mount for a while, and when I removed it it left a black ring on the windshield, so that solution is far from perfect.

I bought my Nuvi 350 based on a recommendation of a trusted friend and must say that I am quite happy with it. The only complaint I have is the adherence of the suction cup mount. It came off on the first two attempts to use the unit. I am sure that the manufacturer would advise that I clean my windshield and the unit would have held. My response would be that this was on a brand new car with virtually zero miles on the odometer prepped for delivery by a professional car dealership. In a word(s) "clean window".
The unit held for 40 min. of an hour trip landing on my passenger's lap.
It was remounted for the remaining ride and return trip only to come off 10 minutes from home.

 purchased the friction mount as the windshield suction mounting system (that works just fine) is illegal here in California, also it kind of clashed with my fuzzy dice, but we're not talking about aesthetics here....

This product is as simple as can be. It is a rubber bottom weighted platform that allows you to attach your Garmin GPS, in my case the StreetPilot c530, to it with the standard ball mounting. And then it just sits their on your dash. The operative verb here (in-transient as it is transient) is sits. It goes no where, it doesn't slip, slide or otherwise slither from its place of intended repose. And for that it gets a veritable constellation of stars!
